IIFT:relief :)

Well gave my IIFT on 28th Nov.This year's paper was very much on the lines of 2009 paper. total 135 questions, however this year they added a certain twist to the VA section, the EU section had questions worth .5 marks each, while RC had questions worth .7 marks each. In total VA section was worth 23 marks down from 30 last year. Well my stategy was simple, attack VA at the outset. Then i would move to the LRDI section where i maximised my score through LR, which is my forte. My strategy pretty much worked out well, the only complain i've is that i was not swift enough with QA & question selection was not upto the mark as a result my score was not upto the mark, also in QA got stuck with a couple of ques. later found that the questions were wrong. Here is my test funda analysis
Hmm, the score in VA is really gud. My strategy of tacklin' with LRDI by attacking LR has also worked out well. The only complaint I have is my score in QA. Just 6!!!
But I think I should get 2 additional marks as there were 2 wrong questions in QA. Here I relied on  my mocks to finetune my strategy for the D-Day. Here is it's summary

T.I.M.E.
S.No.-------------------Score------------%ile-------rank
101103-----------------37.03------------98.72-----56

C.L.
S.No.-------------------Score------------%ile
FLT-1-------------------42.74-----------??
FLT-2-------------------46.75-----------??

Gave my IIFT from Delhi (can't tell the reason), Delhi is a wonderful place, took a ride on the metro :)
Had the wonderful food of places like Nizam's etc. Seeing this place i don't know why I just feel that I want to come  back here. Also met my old class-mates of CL i.e. Roopak Jain & Jasmeet Grover. They are doing there MBA now, Roopak is DMS-IIT Delhi & Jasmeet in IIFT, can't believe it was only 6 months back all of us were in d same classroom, now I'm looking to emulate there achievements. One thing I would like to say about this city, there is a certain warmth about this city. I just feel that I want to come back to this city once more. All in All had  a great time giving IIFT. Now just awaiting the results

The Result:
IIFT declared the shortlist on 21st Dec.Immediateky searched for my name in the shortlist, here is the outcome
Yes my name is there in the shortlist, phew relief last year I had to wait till Feb to get a meaningful call.Well this how my scorecard looks like

Hmmm, just as I had expected, got 2 additional marks in QA for 2 wrong questions. All in All with a score of 43.93 I'm pretty satisfied, just feel could have done better with QA. Neways nw got to gear up for 2nd round.Go go go :)

Epilogue

For all those who are followin' my blog, & read it's articles there may be a high probability that you may get confused readin'  the blog. Actually i started my blog in Dec. 1st week, whereas i had started my prep in June. Now as the results of various entrances are coming in I'll start posting about them as well. So essentially what I'll do is keep on posting my exam experiences, while side by side I'll post my entire journey of my prep.Hope this post clears the confusion.

08/07/2010 AIMCAT 1118:screwed VA once again

Well I have been tryin' very hard to work on my VA section, have been tryin' to rediscover my touch on a section that was my strength last year. However, for some reason i neglected it completely during the initial phase of my prep this year, net result is I have been screwing my mocks over this particular section, up till now. It's not that i haven't tried to rectify my mistakes over the past few weeks. The problem is no matter how hard i try, things are just not changing.AIMCAT 1118 bears a testament to this fact, here is how it went
ATTEMPTS  :37
CORRECT    :20
INCORRECT:17
SCORE:63

This test had +4/-1 marking scheme, well sitting for the test i had expectation that i would crack a 100+ score in this one. Well half way into the test, i realised i would be very fortunate if i could even crack a 50+
I mean this was one paper which could scare the hell out of any aspirant. The only respite was the LRDI section which had 2 straight forward sets.Just look at my accuracy, man it sucks :( .I mean getting 20 correct &17 wrong questions, near 50 % accuracy. If I perform like this on the D-Day i'm a total goner

Scorecard:
Just as i had expected, same old story. Barely scrapping through QA & LRDI cut-offs, while having another fiasco in VA. Just look @ that score 4!!!!!
I mean attempted 16 questions in VA, got only 4 correct, this can't be me :(
Even in QA & LDI the number of attempts is simply not up to the mark, most importantly however realised my biggest folly in VA, I was overconfident in RC, consequently i've lost my touch in this area. Well I think i need to improve my performance by great lengths if I've to make any impact in this year's CAT, c'mon go soumie buck up!!!  =)

Unproc 1:The VA nightmare continues

Well what can you say, sometimes no matter how hard you try, some things never change, my VA performance this season bears testament to that. Unproc-1 was a not so tough test, once again a screwed VA section ruined my chances

Barely sraped through the QA & DI cut-offs. I mean attempted 11 ques. in QA, got 9 correct. In DI attempted 9 ques. got 7 correct. But my waterloo was VA. I mean this was my one reliable section in season 2009, what is happening. Just feel horribly pissed off.

Back to my sanctuary

Went to CL centre to enroll myself for the test series, Motwani Sir greeted me with a warm smile. Got the entire test series package for INR 500 :). So i'm back into the fold of my mentor, now hoping the journey becomes a bit smoother. Proc Mocks & Unprocs I'm back

AIMCAT 1119:Missed oppurtunity

Well i thought that this season was goin' to be a very comfortable journey, i guess when you prepare for an exam that's as intensely competitive as CAT, you should never think it to be so. AIMCAT 1119 provides me a perfect lesson as to how the slightest laps of concentration can be your undoing.

Well an overall score of 70, interesting. The paper was tough no doubt about it, the DI sets were so calculation intensive that they can easily sennd you into a tizzy, so better i simply knocked out the LR based sets.VA  accuracy is proving to be a nightmare for me, the paper had philosophy based passages.Never got to know head or tail of those passages, tried to be super aggressive in a tough VA section, & the outcome is very clearly seen in terms of  my accuracy in VA which simply sucks.
Here is the analysis

Rank of around  400 in DI, approx .97.5%ile

Rank of 2500, or around 85%ile in VA
Rank of around 3750 or 76 %ile in QA,actually while doing the QA section the system hung up.So lost all the momentum as i was doing it in the end, so moral of the story is never lose your conc. while doing a test no matter what happens

Overall rank is around 900, i.e. 94.38 %ile
So this is what it takes to lose an IIM seat, a slight loss of concentration and you are gone

AIMCAT 1120: PAPER PENCIL MOCK CAT !!!!

Well they say strange things can happen, same can be said about the TIME AIMCAT 1120, why do you conduct a paper pencil AIMCAT , knowing that CAT has gone online

I can say just one thing about my performance, disappointing :(
Well the improvement in DI,QA not withstanding I just scrap through the cut-offs in both the sections, missing the cut-off in VA. OMG!!! my strength section is letting me down. The number of attempts in VA & DI simply sucks here, maybe i'm not as conceptualy sound in certain topics as i thought it to be, need to revise the CL Fundabooks!!!!
